Captain Jack Sparrow will be sailing again – or will he?
At this writing (September 2023), details are as sketchy as the location of buried treasure on a deserted island, but it seems as if the iconic pirate adventures will once again be returning to the big screen. Who will be acting in the movie, what the story will be, and when it will be released are the big unknowns.
It’s like we’ve just been handed a treasure map; now it’s time for the voyage!
There’s just something undeniably appealing about the freedom of the high seas, the lure of hidden treasure, and the camaraderie of a rowdy pirate crew. As long as there are stories to be told and adventures to be had, pirates will remain a timeless source of inspiration, making us all wish we could sail off into the sunset with a hearty “Yo ho ho!”
Pirates of the Caribbean – the Disney attraction, not the movies – has long been my most favorite part of any trip to Disneyland or Walt Disney World. The richness of the story and details in the attraction are amazing. If I only get to do one thing at the theme parks, it will be to take in the adventures found in that attraction.
Several years ago, it occurred to me that the stories, characters, and objects found in both the attraction and the movies could be very useful in helping organizations understand more about Guest Experiences…
Pirates and Guest Experiences make a powerful connection!
Here’s a great example: a Pirate-themed, Guest Experience Training event, held at Family Church in Orlando. The event included a keynote, a executive staff breakout, three leadership group breakouts, and a closing challenge. Topics included the Guest Experience Compass, the Guest Experience Code, and more. Guest Experience Director Thea King did an awesome job planning the event, preparing the setting for the event, and leading breakout sessions.
